The representative of the developer of the Russian vaccine against COVID-19, Alexander Gintsburg, suggested that those volunteers who took a placebo during the tests were infected with the coronavirus.
Some volunteers who participated in the trials of the Russian COVID-19 Sputnik V (Gam-COVID-Vac) vaccine were tested positive for the coronavirus.
This was announced on October 28 to RIA Novosti by the director of the Russian vaccine developer, the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, Alexander Gintsburg.
He suggested that those infected could be among those who were injected with a placebo.
According to Gunzburg, in addition to COVID-19, some of the volunteers fell ill with “some kind of illness.”
The agency said 38 volunteers participated in clinical trials of the Sputnik V vaccine. The trials have officially ended, but the volunteers are “in touch.”
In the next stage of the trials, they plan to vaccinate 40,000 volunteers, a quarter of them will receive a placebo.
On August 11, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the registration of the world’s first vaccine against coronavirus infection. According to him, the vaccine developed at the Gamaleya Institute is effective, forms a stable immunity and has passed all tests. Putin said one of his daughters has already been vaccinated against coronavirus infection with a Russian-made vaccine. On August 27, the Kremlin chief said that his daughter had received a second vaccination and was fine.
Head of Scientific Knowledge of Russian the project Inbio Ventures Ilya Yasny believes the Russian coronavirus vaccine registry contradicts scientific and ethical standards for drug development… He noted that the drug was registered after testing it on several dozen people and the final stage of clinical trials was not carried out.
According to a survey by the Higher School of Economics, 45.6% of the country’s citizens never intend to be vaccinated with the Russian vaccine. Among the reasons for this position are fears of possible side effects.
United States said that the Russian vaccine is considered unfinished.
In total, more than 200 potential vaccines against COVID-19 are being developed in the world, said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organization.
An outbreak of coronavirus infection began in late 2019 in China. On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared the spread of the coronavirus a pandemic.
