Starting September 1, Ukrainians will be able to enter Belarus only with foreign passports. With innovation, citizens’ time to pass border control will be reduced.
The corresponding resolution was adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian authorities believe that this could improve the protection of Ukrainian citizens. In the event that an internal passport is lost abroad, identification by foreign institutions is lengthy and complicated, in contrast to operational procedures for documenting travelers in the event of loss of foreign passports.
Likewise, the issue of carrying out an error-free verification of the information on the presence of restrictions on crossing the border will be resolved in accordance with the instructions of authorized state agencies and Interpol bases.
However, return via Belarus possibly also with internal passports.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine explained that the Cabinet of Ministers, by its decision, partially rescinded the agreement on visa-free travel of citizens dated June 12, 2009. Internal passports have a low degree of protection: in 2018, 741 falsified documents were detected, in 2019 – 441, in the first quarter of this year – 48.
Ukrainians living in Belarus and those who do not plan to visit Ukraine in the near future, can issue passports at the embassy in Minsk or at the consulate general in Brest.
Residents of the border regions of Ukraine They can still enter Belarus with their internal passports or birth certificates (minors) according to the intergovernmental agreement of December 12, 1998.
We recall, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine closed the borders for the entry of foreigners until September 28.
Please note that Belarusians will be allowed entry into Ukraine if they are threatened with persecution.
