Vasily Lomachenko – Teofimo Lopez. Prediction and announcement of the fight

Vasyl Lomachenko’s fight against Teofimo López is, by a margin, Ukraine’s main battle in 2020. An absolute lightweight championship is at stake. Vasily is quite ready to do what none of the Klitschko brothers did: tie the belts into a category in his hands.

At the moment, there is only one absolute champion of Ukraine – Alexander Usik. Suddenly he jumped into the boxing Super Series, dismantled everyone who was there, and surpassed his godfather. Now it’s Vasily’s turn, who works his way to his dream with every fight.

Lomachenko had one less fight than López in professional, debuting three years earlier

Vasily understood that the two-time Olympic champion cannot make it to professional boxing, starting boxing in four, six and eight rounds. Either fight for the title, or nothing. In other words, why go there?

There are several reasons for this quick start. First, it’s boring to switch to goalkeepers when you have the ability to really box. Vasily has been boxing as amateurs for so long and then preparing for the pros through the WSB. It just didn’t make sense to wait just yet.

Second, Lomachenko understood perfectly that a sports pension is closer than it seems. More than three hundred fights in amateurs, regular training since childhood, fights in the semi-professional league – this all gets boring, no matter how much you love what you do. Also, when you get hit on the head, it certainly doesn’t have a positive effect on your health. Even considering Vasily’s form, in which he has complete order with the defense, keeping a boxer out is still a chore.

Lomachenko himself initially declared that he was not going to change for incomprehensible battles and wanted to make history immediately. I entered the ring, won, and went fishing to enjoy a well-deserved rest. Vasily successfully implements this plan seven years after turning pro. There was not a single fight in which he did not fight for the title. Even in the first, the WBO international champion’s belt was at stake. Vasily or fight with champions, is champion, or approaches them to take belts away.

In fact, the exception is in part the first fight, the fight against Guillermo Rigondo, as well as the fights against Anthony Krolla and Luke Campbell. At the same time, we’ve already talked about the status of the first fight, Rigondo ordered the fight himself and the crowd worked out flawlessly (and he’s a two-time Olympic champion, and Vasily owned the belt at the time), and Krolla is a mandatory challenger. The fight was also for the belt, but Vasily quickly removed the threat. Campbell had the same story.

The champion fight experience is incredible. And definitely not against past opponents. Nicholas Walters himself was considered the storm of the division until Lomachenko sent him to retreat. Linares – just got to the top at that point, after which he gradually started to slide, and Pedraza and Campbell are giants. José has already entered a heavier category and Luke can climb easily.

Only Mayweather can boast of that pace with more than twenty wins over champions.

López, on the other hand, only defeated the middle peasants.

Teófimo López is still the son of the promoter. In fact, he has zero wins over the tops. And it goes without saying that Richard Commey is the best. Richard is a good boxer. He’s fine with the punch, hits well, and can occasionally get into a championship race. But it is not better than Linares himself, quite the opposite.

And that’s it. No more serious rivals in Lopez’s path. Masaoshi Nakatani? What does it have, besides the dimensions? Edis Tutley, Diego Magdaleno, Mason Manard. Well seriously, can these people be perceived as an excellent boost for a boxer before the champions fights?

In fact, López took advantage of the situation. I established a record and experience in the middle peasants, I chose different opponents, everything was fine. Quite possibly, in the near future it should have passed to guys like Commee, the old man Linares and other boxers who would eventually become goalkeepers. Teofimo’s pace was excellent: fifteen fights in four years. By the time of the twenty-third fight, one could speak of a champions fight.

But clearly not now.

It’s simple: López doesn’t have enough experience at the highest level. Where Lomachenko not only stepped on a road, but a complete autobahn was drawn, Teofimo only chose the section he would go on.

Forecast for battle. A fight without a chance for Teofimo?

Of course, no. An important point is that Lomachenko is not boxing in his category. All rivals are bigger, initially heavier, and more massive. Vasily needs to regularly increase his strength and endurance. While it is easy for opponents. It is even more surprising that he beat all these greats without a chance.

Teofimo is a good boxer. Young, promising, fiery, with a punch. Excellent distance sensing, quickly delivers short shots or bursts. He has enough skills to create problems for Vasily. The same straight right is the best weapon against the southpaw, Lopez has a high level.

He’s good in the early rounds, but what follows is a mystery, because most of the fights Lopez completed quickly. Vasily, on the other hand, can work, as a routine, all twelve rounds, only adding up along the way.

Odds for Lomachenko, as a clear favorite. 1.17 vs 5.50. They correspond roughly to the actual situation. If Lopez hits, there could be trouble. It is not that Vasily does not take badly the blows. It’s just that Teofimo is one of the best one-hitters of his career. If not, there will be a beating. Vasily will simply torture Lopez by dragging him into later rounds and finishing off the body.

Vasily Lomachenko won by knockout in the ninth round.

The Vasily Lomachenko – Teofimo López duel will take place the night of October 17-18 in Las Vegas. The boxers will enter the ring at approximately 04:00 Kiev time.
