Coronavirus vaccine trial stopped for the first time

For the first time, trials of a coronavirus vaccine were suspended. The reason was the COVID-19 infection of one of the volunteers who received the drug.

One of the volunteers on whom AstraZeneca pharmaceuticals tested the vaccine contracted the coronavirus, after which the tests were stopped. On Wednesday September 9, reports AFP.

At the same time, the company, which is developing the drug with the University of Oxford, is leading the global race for a COVID-19 vaccine.

It should be noted that trials have been suspended to allow an independent committee to review the vaccine safety data.

“This is a routine action that should occur whenever a potentially unexplained disease is found in one of the trials. While investigating, it ensures that the integrity of the trials is maintained,” the company said in a statement.

Pauses during clinical trials are not uncommon, but this is believed to be the first time a coronavirus vaccine has been tested.

AstraZeneca is one of nine companies currently in the final stages of vaccine trials. On August 31, the company began recruiting 30,000 volunteers in the United States to participate in the trials.

The day before, it was reported that the first batch of coronavirus vaccine was put into circulation in Russia.

Previously in the United States he criticized the lack of tests carried out with the Russian vaccine, and in Germany he expressed doubts about its safety.
