According to Reuters, Ginzburg experienced health problems for a long time: in 1999, he suffered from colon cancer, in 2009 and 2019 – pancreatic cancer, in 2018 – lung cancer.
Chief Justice John Roberts, commenting on the death of a colleague, said the United States “has lost a historically significant attorney.” He expressed his confidence that “future generations will remember Ruth Ginsburg as we knew her, as a tireless and determined fighter for justice.”
The AP notes that Ginsburg was “the undisputed leader of the liberal wing of the Supreme Court and became something of a rock star to her fans.” The agency calls her “the architect of the movement for women’s rights.”
She was appointed a judge to the United States Supreme Court in 1993 by President Bill Clinton and became the second woman on the court.
