Ukrainian Angelina kalinina (# 145 WTA) predicted that she will cover her racket after the first round of the US Open.
In the opening match, the 23-year-old Ukrainian tennis player lost in straight sets to first seed Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic (No. 3 WTA).

Kalinina started the match with a break, which provoked her opponent a bit. Plishkova responded with four games in a row, after which she calmed down a bit. At first, the Czech did not play very well, there were big stability problems. The Ukrainian took advantage of this, but her presentation, even in the most fantastic dreams, did not allow for a positive result of the match. At the reception, Plishkova nailed the nails or took it to be further away in a winning position.
Having tied at four, Kalinina made, as it turned out, the last attempt to capture any results, having landed a hidden double setball. But the third racket in the world showed that at crucial moments she knows how to recover: two powerful feeds repelled the opponent’s attack, the subsequent rallies of the first game stayed with Carolina.
In the second set, the fight did not work out, Plishkova improved her game and Kalinina realized that there was nothing to catch in this match.
Considering that Angelina entered base due to the elimination of a large number of tennis players, it is unlikely that she will be very upset with today’s result.
In the next round, Pliskova will play either Yasmine Paolini (No. 96 WTA) or Caroline Garcia (No. 49 WTA).
