US President Donald Trump asked Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to recount the votes in the state and “find” 11,780 votes for him. The state leadership convinced Trump in every possible way that such actions were impossible.
The Washington Post reported.
The publication received an audio recording, allegedly taking place in an hour-long conversation between Trump and Raffensperger yesterday, January 2.
During this conversation, Trump repeatedly changed his tone regarding the party member, communicating with him in a flattering manner and vaguely threatening criminal prosecution for failing to comply with the president’s request. He convinced Raffensperger to organize a recount in the state, which could lead to the incumbent’s victory even within one vote (Biden beat Trump by 11,779 votes).
“Look. All I want is to find 11,780 votes. Because we won this state,” said the president of the United States.
In a conversation, the Georgia secretary of state and his legal adviser assured Trump that he had completely false data on the course of the elections and convinced him of the absolute accuracy of the vote counting in the state. Trump did not believe it.
“It is impossible for me to lose in Georgia. Impossible. We won the state by a margin of hundreds of thousands of votes,” Trump said in an interview.
Sunday before the publication of the material, the President of the United States on Twitter he said about a conversation with Brad Raffensperger. He noted that the Georgia official “was unwilling or unable to answer questions about” under-the-table ballot, destruction of ballots, non-resident voting and dead souls “scams.
All the parties that, according to the newspaper, participated in the conversation, did not comment on the confirmation of the details of the telephone conversation.
We will recall that on Saturday 11 Republican senators, led by Texas Representative Ted Cruise, said they were going to challenge the results of the electoral college vote. They urge consideration of the voting results in the US presidential elections in the disputed states.
Also on January 1, US President Donald Trump announced that he was assembling a rally of his supporters in Washington. The action against the electoral results will take place on January 6.
