United States suspends payments to WHO – Trump

United States President Donald Trump says he has ordered his administration to suspend contributions from the World Health Organization because it responded to a coronavirus pandemic.

The WHO “has failed in its primary responsibility and must shoulder responsibility,” Trump said April 14, speaking at the White House.

According to him, the United States will stop funding WHO until an analysis of the organization. This process will take 60 to 90 days.

The President of the United States said that the coronavirus outbreak could have been overcome at an early stage and saved lives if the WHO better investigated the data from China, where the outbreak began.

According to Trump, the UN agency contributed to China’s “disinformation” about the virus, and that likely led to a larger outbreak.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres replied that now was not the time to cut resources for the WHO or any other humanitarian organization fighting the coronavirus.

“Now is the time for the unity and solidarity of the international community to stop the virus and its devastating effects,” said Guterres.

The United States of America recorded a record 2,228 deaths from a coronavirus in the past 24 hours, according to data from Jones Hopkins University on April 14. The country also has the highest number of confirmed cases, over 600,000, and the highest number of deaths, over 25,700.
