Spanish police, together with Europol, arrested 23 money laundering suspects associated with Russian criminal groups. The attackers planned to seize control of key sectors of the country’s economy.

It is reported by DW.

The police note that the suspects also wanted to infiltrate government agencies, with the help of lawyers, officials, politicians, businessmen and hackers.

Law enforcement officers tracked down the group in 2013. It is noted that the attackers also controlled nightclubs, restaurants and real estate on the Spanish coast. The gang members also paid large bribes.

Among those arrested were eight Russian citizens, two Ukrainians, one from Kazakhstan and one from Algeria, 11 citizens of Spain.

During the raids, 300 thousand euros in cash, diamonds, electronic wallets with cryptocurrencies were seized.

The police describe it as the largest operation against the “Eastern European mafia” carried out in Spain in the last 10 years.

Let us remind you that in October the Security Service of Ukraine exposed a network of administrators of a large-scale “cart farm” of Russian-connected provocateurs in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Their goal was to disrupt the elections.

RBC-Ukraine wrote that the French authorities discovered and blocked almost 400 cells that spread the ideas of radical Islamism. For this, the forces of order, intelligence agencies and local prefectures used a special strategy.
