Ukrainians are buying currency at the end of the year
Since the beginning of December, the population has bought $ 100 million more than it sold. The trend has continued since November.
In December, as in November, there is a greater demand for currencies in the cash market, said on Tuesday, December 15, the head of the Board of the National Bank, Bohdan Danylyshyn.
“The spot market continues to see the prevalence of demand for foreign currency over supply, amounting to almost $ 98 million since the beginning of December,” he wrote.
Danylyshyn pointed out that such a situation “testifies to the still stable devaluation expectations of economic entities.”
At the same time, in the interbank market, the hryvnia exchange rate strengthened over the past week by 1.3% to a three-month high.
“This was facilitated by an increase in the supply of foreign currency by bank clients by an average of 13% compared to the previous week. This allowed the National Bank to buy 79 million dollars in international reserves during the past week , which increased to $ 26.8 billion, “Danylyshyn said.
The NBU explained the monthly absence in the interbank market due to the fact that the foreign exchange market was balanced.
