The public organization “Vidsich” also reported on Facebook about the soldier’s death.

Mikitenko received 90% of the burns on his body, he was hospitalized in serious condition, said the press secretary of the National Police, Oksana Blishchik, in a comment to Ukrainska Pravda. Police said they did not know the motives for the man’s act.

Yulia Mikitenko told the Public that her father committed such an act for political reasons.

“Disagreement with the actions of the authorities, that is, with the withdrawal of troops in the line of contact and the progressive occupation of Russia. He was absolutely sane and clearly aware of what he was doing. He did not try to extinguish himself. Young people who they ran they tried to extinguish themselves. On October 13, Yulia’s friend told the public about Nikolai Mikitenko’s worsening condition.

“The doctors no longer say anything, everyone is waiting,” he said.

Before the auto fire, the army posted posts on Facebook criticizing the current government. On the day of the incident on October 11, at 0.41, he wrote the following: “I think how am I going to burn?!. Like Vasily Stus ?! He will have enough strength to show that Ukraine is everywhere! Enough! Come out all, brothers, as on the 24th! Take up arms and defend our native Ukraine!



A day earlier, he called to go to the Office of the President of Ukraine to “explain how we live at the front and how we protect Ukraine.”



In 2014, Mikitenko took part in the battles near Slavyansk as part of the volunteer battalion of the Ukrainian National Guard named after Sergei Kulchitsky. During the evacuation of the downed helicopter in Karachun, he was injured and had a group of disabled people. After treatment, he served in various combat units in the JFO area, the public organization said.
