On the day of the People’s Artist’s death, journalists from the Ukrainian edition “Observer” recalled Gaft’s words about Crimea and the situation in Donbass.

“The military actions in eastern Ukraine, in which civilians die, towns and villages are destroyed, are a savagery that could not be led,” said Valentin Gaft during his lifetime.

The actor believed that Crimea is the territory of the Russian Federation, for which the country had to fight for a long time.

He noted that Kiev itself unleashed military operations in Donbass, pointing out that this is “the extermination of innocent people.”

“No conflict is worth it. This is a bloody wound in the hands of humanity, ”Gaft said.

But at the same time, the People’s Artist always spoke positively about Ukraine.

Gaft was not on the Ukraine blacklist and could go to Kiev or another city of the fraternal town at any time. However, the actor himself said that he was not ready to go to those who fight against the population (that is, the power of the country).

Valentin Gaft died on Saturday, December 12. The death of the actor was announced by his wife Olga Ostroumova. The cause of death was complications after a stroke. Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to the People’s Artist’s family.
