The scoresheets for both teams, which were to close the official year 2020 in Ukrainian football, were “one and a half.” The main news of the location of “Zarya” came early in the morning, it turns out that head coach Viktor Skripnik did not go to Kiev with the team due to the evening meeting with club president Yevgeny Geller.
Alexander Ryabokon decided to seriously modify Desna’s starting line-up compared to the match against Mariupol (2: 0). But the main thing is that there were Egor Kartushov and Philip Budkovsky, who in Sunday’s game radically changed the course of the game after the break in favor of their team. However, the personnel shake-up was also associated with the change in formation to 3-4-2-1, especially for Zorya. The three Tsenrbeks have already brought success to the Chernihiv club against Lugansk in the first round of the championship (3: 1).
However, Skripnik arrived at the start of the match and was present on the bench. Also, according to Viktor Vatsko, commenting on the match, the mentor brought good news to his pupils in terms of bonuses. So the advantage of the guests in early March was easy to explain. Also, the wingers worked well, so Gladky was able to get the ball regularly. One of the passes to the center forward ended with a penalty kick and Vladlen Yurchenko opened the scoring with a jump shot from the penalty spot.
“Desna” continued to do little in attack, so until the end of the first half, Shevchenko managed to create chances at the gate only when the referee allowed too much to the nominal owners in the fight against the goalkeeper. But even in those episodes, “Zarya’s” defenders worked reliably, blocking the opponent’s blows.
During the break, the coach made no replacements, and the second half began with the same thing that ended the first: the banal attacks of “Desna”, in which any danger was created only after power tackles from set pieces and pressure from the goalkeeper. However, the fight set off an episode with a foul, or even dangerous play, Vladlena Yurchenko. In the fight for the ball with Ogirey, Zorya’s midfielder got the ball, but Denis Shurman was close and considered it a dangerous game, having awarded Yurchenko a yellow card. The match resumed, but then a tip from a VAR colleague reached the ear of the head referee, who advised him to go check everything personally. Shurman looked at the freeze frames, after which he believed that Vladlen was still playing an opponent (although he actually only minimally hooked him) and, canceling the yellow, presented a red card to the invited footballer.
At the opening of the last quarter of playing time, “Desna” went into massive attacks, one of which Budkovsky hit point-blank after Kalitvintsev’s shot from the right. But Nikita Shevchenko took the right position and reflected it. Ryabokon made a triple change, switching to a four-player lineup, trying to go all-in. “Zorya” in response simply refused to be active on the flanks, but Viktor Skripnik made no changes.
However, the advantage in the player gave little to “Desna”, it was not possible to create anything dangerous after the blow from Budkovsky. In the end, the squads were matched by Alexey Gutsulyak, who, after entering as a substitute, managed to receive two bookings in three minutes. Zorya’s second goal was also scored by Gladkiy from a clear offside position. Kalitvintsev’s blow in the last attack was dangerous, but again inaccurate.
The Lugansk residents, defending themselves with a clenched fist in the center, defended the victory score and made their way to the Ukrainian Cup quarterfinals!
