One of Ukraine’s blitz and rapid chess world champion Vasily Ivanchuk’s games became the prototype for one of the final episodes of the Netflix miniseries “Queen’s Move.”
The film tells the life of the brilliant young chess player Beth Harmon, who began to practice this sport in an orphanage. Depending on the scenario, in one of the finals tournaments, Harmon meets the Soviet grandmaster Vasily Borgov. This episode was based on Ivanchuk’s actual game against American Patrick Wolf, played in 1993.
This decision was made by Garry Kasparov, a consultant to the creators of the television show. “This is the actual game from Ivanchuk-Wolf 1993. Literally a day after the series launched, I received a letter from Patrick Wolf. It was a shout:” I recognized this game! “benefit of the series”, – said the thirteenth world champion in an interview with “Rain”.
Furthermore, in any fragment where the viewer sees the chessboard and pieces, real matches are represented.
Note that “Queen’s Move” has become Netflix’s most-watched miniseries. It consists of seven episodes. It was viewed 62 million times in 28 days. The main role on the show was played by actress Anya Taylor-Joy.
