The United States and the European Union have taken note of Verkhovna Rada’s approval of the composition of the competition commission for the selection of candidates for administrative positions in the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, the embassies said in a statement.

At a meeting held on September 3, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine did not vote in favor of draft resolution No. 3898 on the appointment of parliamentary representatives in the commission for the realization of a contest to occupy administrative positions in the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.

On the eve of the vote, according to Evropeyskaya Pravda, the ambassadors of Germany, Great Britain, the European Union in Ukraine, as well as the regional director of the World Bank sent a letter to the Ukrainian authorities, who criticized the draft resolution №3898. The letter, the newspaper learned, was received by spokesman Dmitry Razumkov and the head of the President’s Office Andrey Yermak. Representatives of Western Ukraine’s donors and creditors noted that the anti-corruption efforts of the Ukrainian authorities “were and continue to be at the heart of the partnership between the international community and Ukraine”, and the SAP is “a fundamental part of the anti-corruption architecture of Ukraine. Ukraine”. The diplomats and creditors in the letter refrained from evaluating the candidates proposed in the draft resolution, but recalled the requirement of the law regarding high reputation and experience in the field of anti-corruption for the members of the competition committee.

The IMF noted that cooperation with Ukraine depends on maintaining the independence and integrity of the country’s anti-corruption agencies.

On September 17, the Rada adopted draft resolution No. 4104 on the appointment of parliamentary representatives to the commission. This resolution approved four of the seven candidates, whom the Rada proposed to name as draft resolution # 3898. MEPs, members of the Foreign Affairs Committee Viola von Cramont-Taubadel and Michael Gahler, before the vote, announced the risk of lose cooperation with the IMF and visa-free travel with the EU.
