Ukraine’s population decreased by 232 thousand

During 10 months of this year, 247.3 thousand people were born in Ukraine and more than 485 thousand died.

The population in Ukraine as of November 1, 2020 amounted to 41 million 670.8 thousand people, having decreased since the beginning of the year by 231.6 thousand people (0.55%). Said data for Friday, December 18, were published by the State Statistics Service.

According to the ministry, there is a significant excess of the number of deaths over the number of live births: there are 51 live births for every 100 deaths.

According to the State Statistics Service, in 10 months of this year, 247.3 thousand people were born in Ukraine (in the same period last year – 262.3 thousand), 485.7 thousand people died, including 1.6 thousand children under 1 year of age (for the same period of the previous year – 486.8 thousand and 1.9 thousand, respectively).

Also, in Ukraine during the same period, there was an increase in negative migration in the population of 6.9 thousand people (in the first 10 months of 2019 – 12 thousand).

Earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers said that the population census in Ukraine will be carried out in 2023. They plan to spend 7.26 billion hryvnia on this.

It was also reported that in Ukraine there are almost three million fewer men than women.
