Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry noted that at this time they are not considering the question of renaming Georgia to Sakartvelo.

The option of using another alternative name for Georgia – “George” – was not commented on by the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ukraine is not considering changing the name of Georgia to Sakartvelo following the example of Lithuania. BBC Ukraine reports.

“The issue of renaming Georgia is not yet on the agenda of Ukraine-Georgia relations. The Georgian side has not approached the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine with a request to start using the name Sakartvelo in official documents. “said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Georgians call their country Sakartvelo (Country of the Kartvelians). The name comes from the central Georgian region of Kartli (Iberia).

In 2011, Georgia’s Foreign Ministry urged other states to use the name Sakartvelo, as Georgians themselves call the country.

It is known that Lithuania finally got rid of the Russified name of Georgia in favor of Sakartvelo.

Let us remember that in December the Georgian parliament unanimously supported the draft resolution on the republic’s aspiration to join the European Union and NATO.

Earlier, Georgia called the main objective of the application to join the EU in four years. The program of the Georgian government was called For the construction of a European state.
