Ukraine intends to complete a long-term construction dam on the Northern Crimean Canal. This will exclude the possibility of supplying water to the Crimean peninsula until it is returned to Ukraine.
This was stated by the permanent representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Anton Korinevich, when he visited the administration of the Crimean North Canal in the city of Tavriysk and met with the head of the organization, Sergei Shevchenko. His words are quoted on the Facebook of the presidential office in Crimea.
“The position of the representation and management of the canal is unequivocal: there is no water in Crimea before the unemployment. There are certain questions regarding the needs to strengthen the structures that do not allow water from the Dnieper to reach the temporarily occupied Crimea as well as the recovery of the southern regions of the Kherson region. The completion of the dam at kilometer 107 of the canal, which, on the one hand, excludes as much as possible the entry of water into the temporarily occupied Crimea, and for on the other hand, it will significantly improve measures for the recovery of the southern regions of the Kherson region, “said Korinevich.
Construction of the dam began on the canal almost six years ago. In June 2015, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine collected 53 million UAH for construction. The work was planned to be completed first in March 2016 and then in the spring of 2017. But the dam is not yet finished.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian authorities are setting conditions for Russia under which Crimeans will be able to receive water.
Meanwhile, the peninsula suffers from an acute water shortage.
