Verkhovna Rada First Vice President Ruslan Stefanchuk, together with the people’s deputies of the “Servant of the People”, registered a bill that would restrict the placement of advertisements on roads and streets.
Stefanchuk announced his initiative on Facebook. He noted that Ukraine is one of the leaders among the EU countries in terms of specific accident indicators and the consequences of road accidents.
On December 22, Bill No. 1 was registered in the Verkhovna Rada. 4534 on Amendments to the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses Relating to the Ban on Advertising on Roads. Its purpose is to reduce traffic accidents.
According to Stefanchuk, various advertising media distract drivers’ attention, preventing them from correctly assessing the situation. This has a particularly negative effect in the dark, when boards and signs are brightly lit.
The bill proposes to prohibit the placement of advertising media:
-
on trails and alleys;
-
on bike lanes;
-
within the right of way of public highways and at a distance of less than 10 meters from the edge of said strip;
-
within the right-of-way of the streets and roads of the settlements and at a distance of less than 5 meters from the edge of said strip;
-
on the roadway;
-
at a distance of less than 50 meters from the intersection of the road with the train tracks.
As previously reported by OBOZREVATEL, 1,088,241 road accidents occurred in Ukraine during 1991-2019, in which 174,095 people died. In addition, 1,264,657 other Ukrainians were seriously injured. These statistics were published by the press service of the Ministry of the Interior.
