If necessary, Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces (MTR) can capture the heads of the proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics. This was stated by the undersecretary of the Defense and National Security Council of Ukraine, Serhiy Krivonos.
“Yes, this is a task that can be accomplished,” he emphasized in an interview with “Observer.” According to him, one of the examples of the successful work of the Ukrainian army was the destruction of Colonel Oleg Anashchenko in February 2017. He was the head of the People’s Militia of the Lugansk People’s Republic.
At the same time, according to Krivonos, during the operation to eliminate Anashchenko, two Ukrainian soldiers survived and were captured. But in December 2019, they exchanged.
Krivonos also noted that if Russia starts a large-scale military operation in the Donbass territory, it will receive a “stream of coffins.” According to him, Moscow understands that large losses will undermine the political situation in the country, he said.
