“It would be great to remain in the elite of the League of Nations,” said Ukraine’s head coach Andriy Shevchenko after losing a match against the German team. For the dream to come true, it would be very good to start at least without losing to the Spanish team.
Although, of course, this task is with an asterisk. Already in the first game, in Madrid, there was a big difference between the teams. The difference is not in our favor, if at all. Furthermore, it is indicative that the “blue-yellows” appeared then practically in fighting strength and in excellent spirits after the victory over Switzerland. But the wrong tactics and significantly higher individual skill level of “Rohi” predetermined the final defeat.
Since then, although some water has flowed under the bridge, our team’s arrogance was notably taken down. While the Spanish team calmly won a victory over Switzerland and remained the leader of our group, Ukraine was defeated in a friendly match in Paris and then lost in the third Nations League to the Germans. In both cases, our coaching staff experienced enormous personnel problems, due to injuries and illnesses, but at the same time, it should be noted that Shevchenko’s sentries had no chance of reaching at least a draw in these fights, as the opponent it certainly turned out to be a superior cut.
It is true that against the German team, our coaching staff, almost for the first time in recent years, decided not to “dance off the stove”, but to adapt to the opponent. The Blues and Yellows tried to clearly play number two, pragmatically and with discipline. Such a “sacrifice” still did not bring the desired result, but for the first time in the last three matches our team was not ashamed of the match. It seems that Shevchenko will adopt a similar game model in the duel against Enrique’s team.
“We will not announce anyone”, is also the phrase of Andrei Nikolaevich after the game with the Bundestim. Our coach made it clear that there will be no new “receipts” for Shakhtar in the country’s top team. Therefore, you must choose between what is. And there aren’t that many. Apparently, the changes to our team’s starting lineup (compared to the game against Lev’s charges) will be negligible. Let us suppose that instead of Sobol Mikhaylichenko comes out on the left flank of the defense, and instead of Yarmolenko, who failed in the game with the “manchaft”, we can try with Marlos. But the main problem is the absence of the team leader, Malinovsky, due to the “extra” warnings. Likewise, there is no one to replace Ruslan in this situation. Most likely, instead of the Atalanta midfielder, Shaparenko will come out at the base of the blue-yellows.
Luis Enrique’s personnel problems cannot be compared with ours, but they also exist. Due to injuries, Alba, Carvajal, Llorente and Moreno will not be able to play, and Enrique did not call up some of the starting eleven that Fury knew recently. However, in its current form, the Spanish team is a very serious fighting unit, and from the point of view of technical ability, it will easily give our team odds. In general, in the context of such an experienced and skilled opponent, our national team will be considered a loser.
But this is not the worst in the current situation. The main thing for our team is to minimize the amount of unnecessary errors and to play as simple as possible, but very strict, without losing concentration. Only in this case will we hope for a positive outcome. Yes, it will be very difficult, but there are possibilities.
The statistics of the personal encounters are another headache: the last five matches between Ukraine and Spain have invariably ended with the victories of Fury Roja.
Andrey Shevchenko, coach of the Ukraine national team:
– The loss of a player like Malinovsky on the eve of the match with Spain is very tangible for us, but this is the situation. I will prepare a team with the players at my disposal. The reaction was already very good against Germany, the guys came out in a completely different frame of mind. We have no advantage against teams like Germany or Spain, because we are still lagging behind. Their quality and selection of players is much better, they all play for the best clubs. How can we try to compete with them? You must include the maximum effort, and maybe more, to build the game in a certain way.
Luis ENRIKE, coach of the Spanish team:
– There is no underestimation on our part. We feel like before the first game in Madrid. The Ukraine team is an interesting team with a good selection of players. You can see that the team is staying true to their style of play, trying to make football interesting. I think we will see it in the game. We, in turn, will play the football we love.
Approximate compositions:
Ukraine national team: Bushchan, Karavaev, Mikolenko, Zabarny, Mikhailichenko, Sidorchuk, Shaparenko, Kovalenko, Tsygankov, Marlos, Yaremchuk
Spain team: de Gea, Ramos, Navas, Gaia, P. Torres, Busquets, Olmo, Merino, Oyarsabal, Fati, F. Torres.
