The Russian Federation has started another recruitment of Ukrainian citizens in occupied Crimea. Ukraine strongly condemns Moscow’s actions that violate international humanitarian law.
This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
As the department explains, Russia is prohibited by international law from forcing residents of occupied Crimea to serve in its armed or auxiliary forces, as well as exerting pressure and propaganda to voluntarily join the army.
“Since the beginning of the occupation, Russia has already carried out 11 campaigns, during which some 25 thousand people were illegally recruited into the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Russia must stop such violations and unswervingly adhere to the obligations of the occupying state,” emphasized the Ministry of Foreign Relations.
The department also calls on the world community to respond to the violation of international humanitarian law and human rights in Russian-occupied Crimea.
Recall that on October 1 in Russia, as well as in occupied Crimea, compulsory military service began. The corresponding decree was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. It is planned to recruit 135 thousand people into the Russian army.
We add that Ukraine accused Russia of sending residents of occupied Crimea to Donbass to participate in hostilities against the Ukrainian army.
