Kravchuk made a proposal to hold a meeting in the Normandy format at the highest level in late 2020.

The head of the Ukrainian delegation of the Trilateral Contact Group, Leonid Kravchuk, proposes to hold a meeting of the leaders of the Normandy Four in late 2020. The corresponding initiative was expressed at the TCG meeting on Wednesday 25 November, according to the press service of the Ukrainian part of the TCG.

Kravchuk said that at the summit, the leaders of Ukraine, Germany, France and Russia could take stock of attempts to comply with the agreements reached at the Paris meeting in December 2019, as well as discuss plans for their subsequent implementation.

“The consolidated position of the leaders of the states of the Normandy format, who adopted during their meetings a series of documents on the solution of the Russian-Ukrainian armed conflict, is the main point of reference for future work,” explained the TCG.

Furthermore, Kravchuk demanded that Russia take political responsibility and formally define its position on the implementation of the Normandy Four agreements by the end of 2020.

In addition, the Ukrainian delegation in the trilateral contact group at today’s meeting started an extraordinary meeting of the TCG next week.

It is proposed to consider the following questions:

  • – release of detained persons,

  • – Unlocking the operation of the checkpoint by Russia,

  • – finalization of the agreement on nineteen demining sites,

  • – finalization of the agreement on four new hatcheries,

  • – ensure free and unhindered access of the OSCE SMM to the entire territory of Ukraine,

  • – international humanitarian organizations to detainees.

Furthermore, at the beginning of the meeting, Kravchuk made a strong protest to the Russian side regarding the death of a Minkin soldier by a sniper bullet the day before. The head of the Ukrainian delegation demanded that the representatives of the Russian Federation investigate this crime and punish the perpetrators, and the OSCE SMM demanded assistance in the investigation.

Recall that previously Ukraine prepared 11 people for the exchange with Russia at the end of the year. First, it is necessary to exchange those people whose lists have been prepared, believes the head of the Ukrainian delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group.
