Ukraine made the first purchase of vaccine against COVID-19 – Ministry of Health / GORDON

In 2020, Ukraine bought the first batch of COVID-19 vaccine worth 964 million UAH, said Deputy Minister of Health Svetlana Shatalova.

The Ministry of Health of Ukraine reported on the purchase of the first batch of coronavirus vaccine in the amount of UAH 964 million. This was announced on December 31 by the Deputy Minister of Health, Svetlana Shatalova. Video of the briefing was posted on the agency’s Facebook page.

“The day before, we made one of the first purchases of a vaccine worth 964 million UAH,” Shatalova said of the year’s results.

The vice minister did not reveal the name of the vaccine or its manufacturer. Apparently, we are talking about the Chinese vaccine against COVID-19 from Sinovac Biotech: on December 28, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine signed a contract for the supply of the drug, the department expects to receive the first 700 thousand doses in February 2021.

According to Shatalova, this year the Ministry of Health has allocated UAH 12.8 billion for the purchase of drugs, medical products and medical equipment. In particular, UAH 6.5 billion was spent on the supply of medicines and medical devices, UAH 989 million on the purchase of express tests for coronavirus, UAH 730 million on personal protective equipment for doctors (respirators, masks, gloves, protective shields, gowns and suits), 84 million UAH – for the purchase of 200 artificial lung ventilation devices.

An outbreak of coronavirus infection began in late 2019 in China. On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared the spread of the coronavirus a pandemic.

As of the morning of December 31, 1,055,047 cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Ukraine, 18,533 people died, and 709,993 recovered. 2704 people were hospitalized per day.
