Ukraine-EU Association Council date announced

The date of the EU-Ukraine Association Council is known

During the meeting, the parties are expected to agree on new parameters for the free zone and sign an “open skies” agreement.

The EU-Ukraine Association Council will meet on February 11, 2021, although it was originally scheduled for December 2020. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denis Shmygal, the Cabinet press service reported on Tuesday, December 8.

It should be noted that such a decision was made during an online meeting of Ukrainian representatives with the top EU diplomat, Josep Borrell, and the European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, Oliver Vargei.

“The parties agreed to hold the next Association Council meeting in Brussels on February 11, 2021,” the message reads.

According to the prime minister, Ukraine expects the Association Council meeting to agree on joint steps for the practical implementation of the Ukraine-EU summit agreements, in particular, to update the parameters of a deep and comprehensive free trade zone.

The statement also notes that the parties agreed to “make efforts” to sign an agreement on a common aviation space, also known as an “open skies” agreement, during a meeting of the Association Council.

As a reminder, the European Union has postponed the holding of the Ukraine-EU Association Council, which was to take place online on December 8.

Earlier, in the annual report of the European Union on the implementation of the partnership in Ukraine, it was said that Ukraine continues to implement the reform program and there are a number of positive developments. The report describes Ukraine’s implementation of reforms over the past year in accordance with the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement, which entered into force in 2017.
