Polish national team coach Jerzy Brzeczek answered questions from journalists after the friendly match against Ukraine, in which Kadra won with a score of 2: 0.
We are happy to win, because we play with a very good opponent. We are lucky that the opponent did not score a penalty, but this is always an advantage when you beat a strong team. I realize that in this game we made a lot of mistakes, especially in the second half when we were winning 2-0, but we lacked calculation and calm.
Bzhenchek doesn’t think that the missed penalty was the key moment of the match:
The whole situation arose as a result of an unnecessary loss in the middle of the field, after which the opponents launched a counterattack. We warn the players before the game that Ukraine can take advantage of those losses, as they have great potential in midfield. We have received very good material for analysis. We recognize that the victory was happy, but important. The opponent dominated, but not because we were not aggressive, I do not allow it. We just pushed the Ukrainian too late, so we provided space.
The coach of the Polish team thanked Piotr Zielinski for his performance, who has just returned to duty after the coronavirus:
I think he played very well, but we didn’t want to risk him playing more for at least 10 or 15 minutes. I think the first dose of training of this type and the number of minutes it received after the illness is sufficient. It is necessary for future meetings. In your case, the most important thing is to fully prepare for heavy loads. For me he is a world class player and I count on him a lot in the next two fights. We will observe how your body reacts.
Evaluating the performances of several other players, Bzhenchek noted Cryceta’s debut, Milik’s great desire, Piatek’s effective action, as well as the goalkeeper’s actions:
I really appreciate Lukasz Skorupski. Saved by a penalty because that is how he should be treated, plus his actions after long shots, his attitude favored playing zero.
Furthermore, Kadry’s mentor agreed with Andriy Shevchenko that the pitch was very bad:
Fortunately, no one was seriously injured. I can only confirm what Andriy Shevchenko said about the state of the grass.
