Kiev called on Tehran to fully and transparently investigate the circumstances of the tragedy with the Ukrainian airline’s plane.
Ukraine has joined the joint statement of Great Britain, Canada and Sweden on the destruction of UIA flight PS752 by Iran. The statement said Iran is harassing and intimidating some families of the victims of the UIA disaster. This was announced on Tuesday, March 9, by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
As noted in the Foreign Ministry, “Iran is violating its human rights obligations, which is extremely alarming.”
“This is compounded by reports of completely unacceptable threats and harassment to the families of some victims,” the ministry said.
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry noted that UN Council Special Rapporteurs Agnes Kallamar and Jawaid Rehman, during the 46th session of the UN Human Rights Council, issued a letter to the Iranian government, in which they set out a series of serious allegations and did not receive an official response to this letter from the Iranian side.
“Iran’s violation of its human rights obligations is extremely alarming. It is compounded by reports of unacceptable harassment and threats to relatives of some victims. We call on Iran: to respond urgently to the letter of the Special Rapporteur of the UN Human Rights Council, Agnes Callamar; immediately end the harassment and intimidation of the families of victims both in Iran and abroad; ensure a full and transparent investigation of criminal cases and impartial procedures as part of its duty to guarantee justice for the victims of this tragedy; to provide a comprehensive analysis and transparent account of the events that led to this tragedy, “summarized the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine …
As you know, on January 8, 2020, during the departure from Tehran, a Boeing 737-800 aircraft of the Ukrainian airline UIA was destroyed. Flight PS752 was shot down by two rockets fired by the Iranian army. The missile attack killed 176 people.
We recall, Ukraine has transmitted to Iran comments and suggestions on the Tehran report on the accident of the Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) plane, which was mistakenly shot down over the Iranian capital in January last year.
