Ukraine called Markiv's arrest in absentia by Russia a provocation

Markiv won’t be able to travel Russia’s Golden Ring yet – Avakov

The Ukrainian authorities are following the situation of Vitaly Markiv and sent a warning to Interpol about a possible provocation by the Russian Federation.

Ukraine responded to Russia, which it accuses of murder and arrested a National Guard soldier Vitaly Markiv in absentia. Ukraine’s Interior Ministry called it provocation and persecution, according to the agency’s website.

“Interior Minister Arsen Avakov stressed that the Ukrainian National Police systematically monitors information about the so-called ‘Markiv case’ and preemptively sent a warning to Interpol about a possible provocation by the Russian Federation,” the message says .

According to the minister, the Putin regime organized a false case against Markiv, which collapsed in an Italian court.

“Now he (Putin’s regime, – ed.) Is trying to use Interpol’s tools. However, Interpol is a serious international organization that does not allow such cheap provocations. The only thing that the RF IC has achieved is that Vitaly Markiv You will not be able to travel along the Golden Ring of Russia. But this will not always be the case! “- said Avakov.

Please note that on December 11, the Interpol Office of Ukraine sent information to the General Secretariat regarding a possible attempt to use the Interpol information system in relation to Vitaly Markiv.

In the General Secretariat, the organizations acknowledged receipt of the message and thanked “their continued involvement to guarantee the integrity of their Interpol databases.”

Recall that Russia accuses Markiv of the murder of Russian Andrei Mironov and Italian photojournalist Andrea Rocchelli.

On November 3, the Milan Court of Appeals issued an acquittal in the case of Vitaly Markiv, who had previously been sentenced to 24 years in prison in the first instance.

Markiv has already returned to Ukraine and reinstated his service in the National Guard.
