In the framework of the association, Ukraine, as a full participant, has assumed obligations in five areas.

Ukraine received official participant status in the Biarritz Association, an international initiative for equal rights and opportunities for all. This was reported by the press service of the President of Ukraine on Saturday, September 12.

In May, the Cabinet of Ministers voted in favor of the country’s accession to the International Association of Biarritz. Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba sent a corresponding letter from the government to the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs with a statement about Ukraine’s participation in the project on an ongoing basis.

The official written response of the French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian, was presented by the French Ambassador to Ukraine, Etienne de Poncene, at a solemn meeting on the occasion of Ukraine’s official accession to the Association Biarritz International, which was attended by the President’s wife, Elena Zelenskaya, Prime Minister Denis Shmygal, Chancellor Dmitry Kuleba; the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanishina; ambassadors from the G7 countries and Sweden, as well as representatives from international organizations.

“The new commitments that the government of Ukraine has made at the legislative and regulatory level within the Biarritz Association, in particular with regard to granting parental leave to both mother and father or the introduction of legislation to combat manifestations of domestic, sexist or sexual violence are with powerful steps that bring concrete changes, “said the French minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs in a letter.

Ukraine is committed to five areas. It is about the development of a public space without barriers and friendly for families with children and people with reduced mobility; teach children the principles of equality between women and men; prevention of violence; reduce the wage gap between women and men; creating more opportunities for men to care for children.

We recall that in December 2019, Elena Zelenskaya initiated Ukraine’s accession to the Biarritz Association for the Promotion of Gender Equality. She urged the President and the Cabinet of Ministers to do this in her speech at the 3rd Ukrainian Women’s Congress.

The Biarritz Association was founded by the leaders of the G7 countries at a summit in Biarritz (France) on August 25, 2019, chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron. The objective of the initiative is to strengthen accountability and consolidate the efforts of the international community to achieve gender equality.
