Ukraine announced the arrest of 32 ships that entered Crimea

The Ukrainian courts, at the request of the prosecution, “seized” 32 ships that allegedly violated the conditions of entry and exit to Crimea, the prosecution will ask Interpol to add them to the wanted list. This was reported by the press service of the Crimean Prosecutor’s Office (structure within the office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine).

As stated in the press service, “the autonomy prosecutor’s office plans to send a request to Interpol Ukrburo to include these vessels on the wanted list.” The department also announced its intention to request international legal assistance to carry out the arrests.

The prosecution emphasized that the entry of foreign-flagged ships into closed ports in Crimea is considered as actions that undermine the sovereignty of Ukraine, can lead to criminal liability of shipowners, operators and captains of ships. According to the prosecutor’s office, most of the time “they violate” the entry procedure of ships flying the flag of Russia, sometimes – from Syria, Egypt and Lebanon.
