Ukraine is poised to become America’s main ally in the Black Sea region

A more powerful interaction of Ukraine with the United States and NATO will better guarantee security in the Black Sea, trusts the Cabinet of Ministers.

Deputy Prime Minister Olga Stefanishina said Ukraine is ready to deepen cooperation with the United States and NATO, becoming its main ally in the Black Sea region. She said this during a Ukraine online conference in Washington on Wednesday, December 16.

“Ukraine is ready to be not only a partner of the United States, but also one of the key allies of the United States in the Black Sea region, on the eastern flank of NATO forces,” he stressed.

According to Stefanishina, Ukraine plays an important role in the region and, at the same time, a more powerful and systemic interaction with the United States and NATO will ensure its greatest contribution to the security of the Black Sea. Another important argument in favor of such cooperation is the “Russian factor”, added the deputy prime minister.

“This will also allow to respond effectively to the challenges related to the de facto unilateral control of the Russian Federation in some parts of the Black Sea,” summarized Stefanishina.

Recall that the United States provided financial support to Ukraine in 2020 for $ 698 million. This year, the US authorities have allocated almost $ 700 million to Ukraine, of which $ 250 million – for the security industry.
