UIA flight shot down: Ukraine threatens Iran with UN tribunal

Ukraine threatens Iran with UN tribunal over unsuccessful talks over downed UIA plane

Iran is not complying with agreements reached to investigate the downing of the plane, Ukrainian negotiators said.

Ukraine will appeal to the UN International Court of Justice over the UIA plane downed in Iran if all negotiating opportunities with Iran are exhausted. This was stated by the Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine and the head of the Ukrainian group of negotiators with Iran Yevhen Yenin, UNIAN reports on Tuesday, December 8.

Ukraine is ready to appeal to the International Court of Justice, “if the negotiation process reaches a dead end and we exhaust all possibilities of negotiation with the Iranian side,” Yenin says.

According to him, several of Iran’s promises have yet to be fulfilled, although in words, the Iranian side allegedly wants an objective and impartial investigation.

“In the coming days we will contact the Iranian side again, we will insist on the implementation of the agreements reached. Reaching agreements and not implementing them is absolutely counterproductive, and that is why we do not want to continue with this appearance of constructive dialogue. That dialogue does not work.” said the diplomat.

“We continue to count on the goodwill of the Iranian side and with the help of all the instruments that we have at our disposal, both diplomatic and criminal law, we will demand that the Iranian side comply with its international legal obligations,” Yenin summarized. …

Recall that Iran has not yet transferred materials to Ukraine in the downed UIA plane. The day before, a representative of the Attorney General’s Office held a regular meeting with the Iranian ambassador to investigate the plane crash.

Previously, Ukraine accused Iran of delaying the UIA plane crash case. Tehran does not share information and does not respond to requests for cooperation, the Attorney General’s Office said.
