He left his post at the university in 1998 and in 2001 he directed the Kiev “Obolon”, which he immediately took to the top flight. Slobodyan worked on the “Brewers” training bridge twice: the first time he coached the team from 2001 to 2004, the second time from 2006 to 2008. After completing his job at Obolon, he decided to pay more attention to his family and go back to teaching.

In 2020, Petr Slobodyan was awarded the Order of Merit, grade II by decree of the President of Ukraine.
