The two economic zones must work to unite the country, said the head of the Presidency.
The Ukrainian authorities want to create a free economic zone (EPZ) not only in the Donbass, but also in one of the western regions of the country. This was stated by the head of the President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, in the VIP program with Natalya Moseichuk on the 1 + 1 television channel on Thursday, November 5.
“We plan to create not only a free economic zone in Donbass, but also another free economic zone in western Ukraine. Today, these two zones, two economic opportunities should also work to unite the country, for the equal opportunities that we want to provide today. … Today this problem is still being solved, but it will be one of the western regions, “Yermak said.
According to him, “the people who today understand what it is (FEZ – ed.), They all support it.”
“Of course, this decision has not yet been made, it will be discussed both at the expert level and at the parliamentary level. But we believe that this is a project, first and foremost, to attract investment, and to really restore it and to do it as you said that the depressed region is a prosperous region of Ukraine, which today in fact would give even more powerful support for the development of the Ukrainian economy in general, “said the head of the OP.
Yermak explained that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared and announced a project as a free economic zone in Donbas to attract not only funds from Ukraine, which will not be enough, to restore the economy of the region.
“And that is why today during all the negotiations with our partners we hope and count on your help,” he said.
Yermak also stressed that if such a decision to create a free economic zone in Donbass is made, it will be very balanced, agreed at the Ukrainian level, and specialists who have worked in successful free economic zones abroad will be involved.
Let us remind you that the free economic zone in Donbass was created since 2014 and is not yet operational. President Zelensky decided to update this issue again, taking it to an all-Ukraine poll on October 25.
As a result, with regard to the creation of a free economic zone in Donbass, the opinions of citizens were divided: 45% in favor, 43% against.
