Two earthquakes occurred in the Lake Baikal area

On the territory of the Russian Federation, in the Lake Baikal area, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 occurred on Monday, September 21. A quarter of an hour later, the tremors were repeated with a strength of 2.3 points. This was announced by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center.

According to seismologists, the epicenter was 84 km southwest of the city of Irkutsk, which is home to about half a million people. The outbreak was located at a depth of 2 km.

The press service of the Russian Emergency Ministry reported that the tremors from the first earthquake were felt in 12 regions of the region. No injuries or damage have yet been reported.
