Ankara condemned and rejected the announced US decision

Washington’s actions in Ankara were called unfair and called for a review of the sanctions decision.

Turkey will take all necessary measures against the US decision to impose sanctions against it for the purchase of Russian S-400s. This is confirmed by the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic, published by the department’s press service on Monday, December 14.

“We condemn and reject the US decision announced today regarding the supply of S-400 air defense systems, which includes unilateral sanctions against Turkey,” the message reads.

As stated in Ankara, Turkey has repeatedly proposed to solve this problem “on an objective and realistic basis, distancing itself from political prejudices”.

However, Washington did not agree to such a proposal and resorted to unilateral restrictive measures, the statement said.

“Turkey will also not refrain from taking the measures it deems necessary to guarantee its own national security. We invite the United States to reconsider the unfair decision on sanctions announced today,” summed up Turkey’s Foreign Ministry.

Recall that the United States imposed sanctions against Turkey for the purchase of Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems. US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo said the United States will not tolerate major deals with the Russian defense and intelligence sector.
