Yanukovych’s lost treason appeal
On October 2, the Kiev Court of Appeal upheld the verdict of the Kiev Obolonsky District Court on former fugitive Ukraine President Viktor Yanukovych in the treason case. The prosecutor said the former president is officially convicted. Yanukovych’s lawyer said the decision will be appealed to the Supreme Court.

Sanctions without Lukashenka
For falsifying the results of the presidential elections and the crackdowns on protesters, the European Union imposed selective sanctions against 40 citizens of Belarus: the leadership of the Ministry of the Interior, the head of the Central Election Commission and the OMON commanders. Sanctions include travel bans to EU countries and an asset freeze. EU citizens and companies were prohibited from conducting financial transactions with people on the sanctions list.
President Alexander Lukashenko was not included on the sanctions list.

Ukraine intends to join the sanctions imposed by the European Union.
Belarus responded to the restrictions with its sanctions, but the list of people they came up against has not yet been released.
Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone with Lukashenko and discussed, according to the Kremlin, “attempts to interfere in Belarus from abroad.” The Russian Foreign Ministry said the restrictions imposed by Belarus apply “automatically” in Russia.
