Rosprirodnadzor found an excess concentration of three substances in water samples in Kamchatka.

The permissible concentration of phosphate ions is exceeded almost 11 times, phenol almost three times, and iron almost seven.

In water samples for pollutant content in Kamchatka, an excess of the allowable concentration of iron, phenol and phosphate ions was recorded. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation on Thursday, October 8.

“The analyzed samples showed an excess of phosphate ions in 10.8 times, total iron in 6.7 times, total phenol in 2.9 times,” it was reported.

Rosprirodnadzor claims that the excess was recorded not only in Avacha Bay, but also in nearby rivers – Taenka, Khalaktyrka, Kirpichnaya.

Previously, experts had already identified an excess of the permissible content of phenol and petroleum products in the coastal area near Khalaktyrsky beach in Kamchatka. Contamination was then detected in three more areas of the Avacha Bay water area and the facts of the death of marine life in the Bolshaya and Malaya Lagernaya bays, as well as in Babya Bay, were revealed.

Animals were previously reported to have died in Kamchatka due to the oil spill. The international environmental organization Greenpeace called it an “environmental disaster” and demanded an investigation into the incident.
