Russia must be ready to withdraw from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
This was stated at a meeting in the Council of the Russian Federation by the country’s deputy representative in PACE, Pyotr Tolstoy. He added that in this case Russia can create its own human rights mechanisms. A fragment of his speech on Telegram was published by the People’s Deputy of “European Solidarity” Alexey Goncharenko (to see the video scroll down the page to the end).
“The first thing we must do is reconsider our role in the organization. Second, we must be ready to leave it if the trilateral procedure against our country is launched. I think we cannot tolerate this humiliating story,” Tolstoy said.
He stressed that Russia should also think about creating its own human rights mechanisms, for example an analogue of the European Court of Human Rights.
“We can create our own ECHR together with our allies, if we have them. And if we don’t have them, we can create an additional control mechanism within our legal system that meets the aspirations of our citizens in terms of protecting their rights.”, Tolstoy explained. …
In turn, Goncharenko pointed out that the work of the Ukrainian delegation in the last PACE session continues to bear fruit.
“I hope that Tolstoy does not delay in keeping his promises for a long time. And we will be happy to help with this,” he wrote.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Tolstoy previously said that Russian-occupied Crimea “will never return” to Ukraine.
