The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, said that the decision to appoint former Prime Minister Vitold Fokin as first vice chairman of the Trilateral Contact Group was taken collectively.

Yermak stated this in an interview with Ukraine 24.

According to him, the decision to invite former Ukrainian Prime Minister Vitold Fokin to the Trilateral Contact Group was made taking into account his political experience.

“Decision Fokin’s invitation to the TCG was collective. It took into account the fact that Fokin was born in Donbass, he came a long way, he also has quite a large political management experience, twice the prime minister, a man who rejected Gorbachev becoming prime minister of the USSR “he said Ermak.

He noted that if Fokin had made provocative statements about Donbass earlier, he would not have been invited to the TCG.

“ME I would like to have a clear understanding, to say a little about the fact that TCG is a consulting platform. This is not a representation of the state. Consequently, no decision made by the TCG entails political obligations for the state of Ukraine … But a situation occurred in which Fokin’s words and statements were, of course, public and, of course, did not coincide with the official position. of the Ukrainian delegation. That is why the president made the decision to exclude Fokin from TKG, ”Yermak said.

Vitold Fokin, 87, joined the Ukrainian delegation to the Donbas TCG on August 18. At the same time, his granddaughter Masha Fokina said that he received the position after he presented it to the head of the President’s Office, Andrei Yermak.

Less than two weeks later, he asked for a general amnesty and special status for the entire Donbass.

Additionally, Fokin named the Kremlin-controlled militants «rebels “and proposed to form “International interim government “for the holding of local elections in the occupied territories of Donbass.

After high-profile statements, he was summoned to the parliamentary commission on the organization of state power and local self-government. The meeting was supposed to take place on September 15, but Fokine refused to attend the committee, referring to being busy.

At a committee meeting on September 29, he said he did not believe Ukraine was at war with the Russian Federation in Donbas.

The following day, September 30, Fokin was removed from the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG.
