Protests in Belarus
The opposition accused Lukashenka of not wanting to dialogue with Belarusians and promised years of protests.
The head of the opposition in Belarus, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, said that the protests in her country will not relent, they can last for years. She said this on Monday, September 21, at an extraordinary meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, dedicated to the situation in Belarus, reports TASS.
According to her, President Alexander Lukashenko hopes that “the protests will gradually diminish.” “But we will protest as long as it takes – weeks, months or even years,” Tikhanovskaya said.
He pointed out that in the republic the Opposition Coordination Council was created to serve as a platform for dialogue between the people and the authorities. According to her, “the dialogue does not begin only with Lukashenka.”
“Lukashenka does not want to talk to Belarusians, he does not want a dialogue,” Tikhanovskaya added.
In his opinion, only pressure can force the authorities to engage in dialogue with the people. To do this, protests continue in the republic, which must continue peacefully, he emphasized.
It was previously reported that Tikhanovskaya was invited to an informal breakfast with members of the EU Foreign Affairs Council.
Before that, Tikhanovskaya recorded a video message to the leaders of the European Union, in which he described the past elections as dishonest, opaque and rigged.
