The opponent assured the Russians that the protests in Belarus “were not at any time a fight against Russia.”
The head of the opposition in Belarus, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, recorded a video message to the Russians, in which she explains what is happening in her country and urges not to believe in the “false Russian propaganda”. The corresponding appeal on Wednesday 9 September was published for the first time by the Pool Telegram channel.
He spoke about the large-scale fraud in the country’s presidential elections, which became the reason for the mass protests, to which Lukashenka responded with “the repression of protesters incredible in terms of cruelty and scale.”
“The illegitimate president gave the order to shoot unarmed citizens, throw grenades at them, use gas and water cannons. More than 10,000 people were arrested, seven were killed, hundreds were tortured and subjected to violence. This could not happen without a warrant. direct from the authorities, “Tikhanovskaya said.
He said the arrests, which began several months before the elections, continue to this day. For more than three months, Tikhanovskaya’s husband Sergei, who intended to run for president, as well as other contenders and many ordinary citizens, have been in prison.
According to Tikhanovskaya, the attempt to decapitate the protest was unsuccessful, as thousands of Belarusians continue to come out to rallies every day.
He pointed out that the Belarusian people have three extremely simple demands: the departure of Lukashenka and new fair and transparent elections with the participation of all candidates, the release of all political prisoners and the investigation of all crimes against Belarusians.
“At no point was it a fight against Russia, and I’m sure it won’t be,” Tikhanovskaya said.
He emphasized that Belarusians are inclined to the friendliest relations with all neighbors, maintaining the sovereignty of their own country. Tikhanovskaya thanked the Russians who participated in solidarity actions with the Belarusians and urged not to let the propaganda “poison relations with friendly peoples.”
Tikhanovskaya clarified her position on Crimea
Let us remind you that Tikhanovskaya is now in Lithuania, where he was provided with accommodation and security.
