Belarusian opponent Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, on the eve of a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin, spoke out in favor of expanding EU sanctions against Belarusian officials. She called the sanctions imposed by the Council of the European Union last week “a small victory.”

Write about this DW.

“I am sure, and I insist, that this list should be expanded,” Tikhanovskaya stressed.

He added that he had received proposals from the German chancellor on those who could be affected on October 6.

Tikhanovskaya noted that the meeting with Merkel will most likely turn into “a warm conversation between two women, one of whom needs help for her country and the other is ready to help.”

At the insistence, in particular, of French President Emmanuel Macron, Brussels did not include Alexander Lukashenko on the previously approved sanctions list.

Earlier it was reported that Tikhanovskaya expects Germany’s support regarding human rights in Belarus.
