Hungary’s Foreign Minister Peter Siyjarto claims that the OSCE’s special monitoring mission was prohibited from communicating with the Hungarian minority in the Transcarpathian region. He said this on 3 December during the 27th meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council, a video of his speech was published on the organization’s YouTube channel.
Siyjarto complained about searches carried out by the Ukrainian Security Service of one of the Hungarian organizations in Transcarpathia. According to him, this is unacceptable in the 21st century and “definitely does not correspond to the principles of the OSCE”. He recalled that he had asked the Albanian Foreign Minister, Gent Kakaya (Albania currently chairs the OSCE) to send a special OSCE monitoring mission to Transcarpathia.
“I received this promise from my good friend and colleague Minister Kakaya. And as he promised, a special monitoring mission went to Transcarpathia. This is outrageous and unacceptable because the principles of our OSCE Special Monitoring Mission include “monitoring and supporting the respect of human rights and fundamental freedoms, including the rights of persons belonging to minorities nationals, “Siyarto said.
He asked the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Ramu, as president of the OSCE, “to deal with this issue” and to find out “how it can be possible in the organization.”
