On February 2, several television channels of the so-called group of the popular deputy of the Opposition Platform – For Life, Viktor Medvedchuk, were blocked in Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin reacted to the blockade, stating that the channels were “slammed shut”.

During an online conference with the leaders of the factions of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Russian President Vladimir Putin reacted to the closure of television channels associated with his godfather and popular deputy of the Opposition Platform – For Life Viktor Medvedchuk. The broadcast was presented by the TV channel Russia 24.

“Look, in Ukraine they seized and slammed three main channels and that’s it. With a stroke of the pen. And everyone is silent. And some even pat them on the shoulder approvingly. Well, how can you argue this? Nothing, except to use these tools to achieve their own geopolitical goals “, – said Putin.

On February 2, Zelensky put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council on the application of sanctions against the OPSO People’s Deputy Taras Kozak and his officially owned television channels.

The sanctions provide for the revocation of the license of “112 Ukraine”, ZIK and NewsOne, they are ordered to stop the broadcast, all legal activities of media companies are terminated for a period of five years. Providers immediately began blocking TV channels, made a joint statement on “political violence” and promised to fight “for their right to broadcast for Ukrainians.”

Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the President’s Office, pointed out that these are channels of the so-called Medvedchuk group. “They are used very actively and openly often as instruments of foreign propaganda in Ukraine,” stressed Podolyak.

The 112 blockade of Ukraine, ZIK and NewsOne has nothing to do with an attack on freedom of expression, said Yulia Mendel, a spokeswoman for Zelensky. According to her, there is evidence that these channels are financed from Russia.

The Supreme Court has opened proceedings on a claim to lift sanctions against three television channels, the press service of the Ukrainian judiciary reported on February 11.
