Ukraine’s Health Minister Maxim Stepanov urged Ukrainians to comply with the recommendations developed by the Health Ministry to contain the coronavirus in Ukraine, noting that 35,000 beds reserved for COVID-19 patients may not be enough.
Ukrainian Health Minister Maxim Stepanov said during an hour of questioning the government in the Verkhovna Rada on September 4 that Ukrainians are frivolous about quarantine requirements and that the country may soon not have enough resources to treat all infected with coronavirus, reports the GORDON correspondent.
He recalled that during the past day, a record number of new cases of coronavirus infection was detected in the country: 2723. During the past month, the minister said, 12 registries were established in Ukraine for the number of new patients with COVID-19 .
“Fighting the virus – this is not a question of political interests, but of people’s lives … The worst thing is that many are used to statistics and begin to perceive them simply as numbers and quarantine restrictions are taken lightly. But COVID-19 is an integral part of our life, it is our new reality. Our common task – help citizens to adapt as quickly as possible ” – said the minister.
He compared the situation of the epidemic with the organization of trafficking.
Imagine a situation where people wouldn’t know that they need to stop at a red light. We can have roughly the same situation if, in the new reality, our citizens do not adhere to the basic rules of safety behavior. This week we received hundreds of photos of city day celebrations, festivals and concerts. We see the attitude of the people towards the anti-epidemic measures and we can only draw one conclusion: they all started to cross the street at a red light ”. – said Stepanov.
The minister pointed out that the strategy to combat the coronavirus has two components. First Is development and adherence to rules that help prevent infection. The Ministry of Health has developed these recommendations and insists on their observance, Stepanov stressed. These include, but are not limited to, hand washing, wearing masks, and social distancing.
“The second component is the treatment of patients … In this matter, the margin of safety is limited. Although now we have 35 thousand beds [для больных COVID-19], we may face a situation where there are simply not enough doctors (this week the minister said that 44% of beds for coronavirus patients are already occupied in Ukraine. – “GORDON”)… We cannot remove all doctors from their direct responsibilities and fight COVID-19. The coronavirus pandemic has not canceled cancer or cardiovascular disease. ” – said the minister.
An outbreak of COVID-19 coronavirus infection began in late 2019 in China. March 11, 2020 World Health Organization announced the distribution coronavirus pandemic.
According to the US Johns Hopkins University, the total number of infected people in the world exceeded 26.3 million, of which more than 17.5 million were cured and 868.8 thousand died. Ukraine is ranked 24th in the world in terms of the number of infected. In the country, the coronavirus was confirmed in 130,951 people, of which 2,761 died and 60,613 recovered.
