He said that in a meeting with the president on December 11, the finance minister and the prime minister of Ukraine ensured that as soon as the issue of allocating additional funds arose, the money would be transferred from other items.

“It will not be about buying additional vaccines,” Radutsky said.

He also said that the process of forming 400 mobile teams that will vaccinate the population is underway.

The secretary of the Security and National Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov, in turn, emphasized that the decentralization reform has been carried out in Ukraine, so now it is incorrect to assign all responsibility only to Kiev. According to him, the issue of financing vaccination should be decided jointly by central and local authorities.

The Ministry of Health said that they have identified 12 priority groups that will receive the vaccine in the first place, we are talking about doctors, teachers, police and the elderly.

Ukraine, under the COVAX global initiative, expects to receive 8 million doses of vaccine for free, designed to immunize 4 million Ukrainians. Ukraine will receive the first 5% of COVAX doses of the drug in early 2021.

In addition, the Ministry of Health is negotiating the purchase of the vaccine with three American manufacturers and one Chinese. The head of the Ministry of Health, Maxim Stepanov, asked the US Chargé d’Affaires in Kiev, Christina Quinn, in the United States to consider Ukraine as a priority candidate to receive the vaccine in the test and emergency mode. According to him, within the framework of this initiative, Kiev expects to receive 6 million doses of the vaccine.

Vaccination in Ukraine will not be mandatory, Stepanov stressed. Believe that the it is necessary to “explain and demonstrate as much as possible the safety of the vaccines to be used in Ukraine”.

The acting head of the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, Igor Kuzin, said that vaccination against COVID-19 in Ukraine will tentatively start on March 1, 2021.

An outbreak of coronavirus infection began in late 2019 in China. On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared the spread of the coronavirus a pandemic.

In Ukraine, on December 11, 2020, 872,228 cases of coronavirus infection were confirmed, of which 13,514 were in the last 24 hours. Since the beginning of the epidemic, 14,755 COVID-19 patients have died and 480,348 have recovered.
