The government’s decision establishes that even in supermarkets it will be prohibited to sell a significant part of everyday products. The company warns of the negative consequences.
The American Chamber of Commerce calls on the Cabinet of Ministers to review the text of Decree No. 1236 on the establishment of quarantine and the introduction of restrictive measures from January 8 to 25, since in its current form it not only restricts the consumer rights, but will also generate conflict situations in stores.
As indicated in the appeal of the Chamber, the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers prohibits the trade of any merchandise, except food, drugs and medical products, hygiene and communication products, as well as feed, veterinary drugs, seeds, phytosanitary products. Any other product can only be ordered with home delivery.
The Chamber draws attention to the fact that it is not just about the complete closure of specialty stores.
“As of January 8, even in supermarkets, the sale of an important part of the goods of daily use will be prohibited: chemical products and tools for the home, clothing, press, light bulbs, batteries, articles of infantile education”, says the appeal.
The Chamber noted that to restrict visitors’ access to prohibited products for sale, according to the government’s decision, supermarkets will be forced to close their departments or prohibit the sale of such products directly at the checkout.
In the opinion of the member companies of the Chamber, such a decision is not only a direct restriction of the rights of consumers to buy the necessary products, but it can also generate conflict situations in stores.
In order to avoid negative consequences, both for commercial entities and consumers, during the month of December the Chamber repeatedly appealed to the Cabinet of Ministers with the request for revision of the text of Resolution No. 1236.
“The edition proposed by the business community will allow commercial entities that sell goods in commercial areas to work, at least 60% of which are destined to the trade of food, medicine, medical products, hygiene and household chemicals, communications, media printed. veterinary drugs, feed, seeds, phytosanitary products, without restricting the access of visitors to other goods ”, says the appeal of the Chamber.
“To this day, the problem remains unsolved. Commercial establishments are an integral commercial unit, in addition, the only one capable of satisfying the basic needs of the population under quarantine conditions. Limiting its assortment is illogical, since the consumer, being in a commercial establishment, has equal access to all goods. As a result, one should expect additional losses to business and the state, as well as significant consumer dissatisfaction, ”concluded the American Chamber of Commerce.
