There was no tie in the duel between Tyson and Jones. And that?

On the night of Saturday to Sunday, a duel of legends took place: Mike Tyson against Roy Jones.

When Mike Tyson and Roy Jones enter the ring, the result is important. It is especially important when they are active athletes, the result goes to the record and the championship belt is at stake. But is it important now? Very unlikely.

Mike was better than Jones

Tyson is wonderful. Of course, this is no longer the explosive American, with whom it was scary to even think of a duel. His age was over fifty, Mike was tormented with weight loss and a priori could not become that. Nobody can, and considering his lifestyle, it is surprising that he survived this way.

However, Mike did not step into the ring to play. First of all, he weighed almost as in his prime years: 99 kilograms. There was practically no excess fat, the general fitness was in perfect order. Second, he had a plan. Tyson approached the fight in the most responsible way possible, in which nothing was decided. Oh, if only he did the same at the time of his dawn.

Jones was not a perfect car. Visually, Roy was better, but he also had less time to prepare. And the American is not a killing machine. It never took physics, power. His trick is the incredible intelligence of boxing, the ability to shake off any situation in the ring, outwit, and then punch so that the last thing the opponent remembers is the ceiling of the room.

The battle format is different. Twelve pound gloves are perfect. On big punches, they wouldn’t be felt at all and fighters would tire faster. In the smallest, on the contrary, it could be too hard. Eight rounds is fine, as is two, not three minutes. Before the fight, the fighters tried to be outraged that two minutes was not enough. Afterwards, they said that these two sometimes walked exactly like the three of them. Nobody was totally tired and was active until the end. At the same time, fans managed to see exactly as much as the 105-year-old couple was able to show them.

Of course, Tyson was better. He acted more actively, punched the body and just focused more on the punch. Roy is great. Despite his age, his legs are good enough not to be sad that Jones has lost his shape. Feints, body impact mitigation, and body work itself are something you will never lose.

Jones had less accent. Not only compared to Tyson, but also to the best version of himself. If the previous feints were to get away from the opponent’s attacks and counterattack to end the battle, now it is only to get away from Mike’s attacks. After two rounds, Roy sat in the corner with the face of a tortured animal, but closer to the final rounds he perked up: he went into several swings with Mike and even exploded in series at close range.

Not like it used to be, but it’s good to see it all.

Lennox Lewis said he wants to look at Tyson, who he will miss and not want to give up. The British stated in plain text that this was impossible. Mike is a crazy hunter who just got hooked. Here also the American finished. At the beginning and at the end of the battle, he hit Roy after the gong, constantly walked forward, attacked and struck the body.

The latter was especially appreciated by Jones in a post-match interview when he said that he thought he had won, but the opponent’s body shots were very good.

Why was there a result?

To warm the interest of the audience. The helmet display duel would be seen by half the people. Exposure, but without helmets, a little more, but still not enough. Even with retirees from the ring, people want to see the bottom line and the truth. They saw the truth, the result, no.

Tyson had to win. The most he gave was two rounds to Jones for accuracy and activity. This is important for those who were eager to see not the boxing, but the result. It is important for those who believed in the decisions of the judges and put money. And I never saw that the judges were just former champions.

The story of the duel between Tyson and Jones is not about the outcome. More precisely, it is not about the correct result. In fact, in terms of time, no one needs Mike or Roy’s win in 2020. She doesn’t count, and the legends, why spoil the night and the mood? In their 50s or older, these guys went through training camps, lost weight, and showed great boxing. Yes, sometimes stringy – the referee could definitely break up sooner. Yes, there were slow-motion versions of themselves in the ring. But both Tyson and Jones believed that everything was real. And they showed their current maximum. And it was decent.

Exactly better than we could have hoped for before.

Draw – so as not to offend anyone. Yes, deceive all those who bet on the victory of one or another fighter. But the athletes themselves have nothing to do with it, they did their best in the ring to win. And gamblers had to understand their risks.

Both fighters gave their best and are sure they should have won. And this is great, because watching people get high on what they love is an extremely enjoyable experience. Especially when these people are the greatest teachers.

Now what?

Roy said before the fight that he would like to have a boxing match against MMA legend Anderson Silva. There was previously talk about him being ready to go into the cage, but this is clearly not the best idea. After meeting with Mike Jones, he clutched his stomach and said he would think about it and consult with his family on what to do next.

Strong Tyson was as positive as possible. He said he was ready to do it again with anyone and overall he was starting his career over so Mike talked about a fifteen year breakup they say the feelings are the same. Most likely, the American will enter the ring again.

There are tons of options: Holyfield, any of the MMA legends, and even acting boxers. Mike encouraged them to box too. True, in exhibition fights, part of the fee of which will go to charity. Fury, Joshua, and Wilder definitely have other things to do, but this would be the crossover of the century, no less.

But the most likely opponent is Evander Holyfield. He started preparing when Mike did. And he’s definitely ready to step into the ring against “Iron” for the third time. You just need to want. Tyson, fans and Evander himself.

With the latter, questions will definitely not arise.
