Vaccines can’t repair the damage
Humanity is facing a great global recession that has not been seen in the last 80 years. The level of extreme poverty and the threat of hunger is increasing in the world.
The Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, warned that the world will face the worst economic recession in 80 years. No COVID vaccine can repair the damage that has already been done, Guterres said in an online speech at the Nobel Prize Forum.
“We are facing the biggest global recession in eight decades,” said the UN secretary general.
He added that the social and economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic continues to grow. According to the organization’s secretary general, no vaccine against COVID-19 will be able to correct the damage that has already been done to humanity.
Antonio Guterres emphasized that the level of extreme poverty and the threat of hunger is growing on the planet.
The UN chief also added that during the pandemic, the actions of the countries were not coordinated, and this situation must be corrected when distributing the COVID-19 vaccine.
Previously, Antonio Guterres complained about “vaccine nationalism.”
Prior to this, the UN Secretary-General reported that humanity may not live to see the next century.
